Step by Step Charity Update...

As many of you will know Fresh have long supported the Christian charity Step by Step for which I’m a trustee. The project helps the rejected from society including the homeless, people fighting addictions, people with learning difficulties or just individuals that are having a tough time.

How does the project work? We get people into manual work on gardening and clearance projects, getting alongside them with care and love and start the process of building them up. This is all done through our Christian faith.

The project is a miracle in its own right surviving largely on kind donations that enable us to pay the wages and the general over heads to keep the project moving. Current day we have around 14 individuals out on both paid and volunteered work depending on their background and circumstances. We carry out mostly gardening and clearance work that is all supervised and completed to a good standard. This teaches the boys and girls the value of hard work, the satisfaction of completing work to a good standard and then the feeling of pride that comes with being paid for an honest day’s work. For people that have been rejected, not able to secure work and/or who survive on government handouts this is a great step in the right direction.

We have many success stories on the project, and these come in different ways and at different levels. Some come on the project, struggle and come off only to come back at a later date to grow the second time around. In these circumstances we have to remain patient. Others get built up quickly and we have managed to get them into full time work with some partners that we work with. Both are of course great results. The best stories for us are the ones that not only get built up and into full time work, but who come to know Jesus and have a complete life change through this new relationship.

Our most recent good news story is being granted the use of large premises in the enterprise zone in Swansea where supervised volunteers have been refurbishing furniture that we can sell on for much needed funds for the project. The greatest gain being the opportunity to work and care for individuals in an indoor environment. We must say a big thank you to all the Christian support workers and volunteers that help out. This extra help enables Pastor Carl Roberts to get out and concentrate on the gardening and clearance work with another team of boys.

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Matthew 11:28-31
