I started as a tea boy….
I first moved to Swansea when I was 18 (I’m now 41!) having relocated to the area with my parents and two brothers. I had carried out work experience in an estate agency in Warminster, Wiltshire and had it into my head that I wanted to be an estate agent! When I moved to Swansea I wrote to every estate agent in the city and received a reply from a Christopher D’Arcy Estate Agents now known as Bay Estate Agents. I spent 14 years with this company progressing from tea boy to negotiator to office manager and then finally making director. I still have a great relationship with the team and founder at Bay and valued my time here learning from experienced individuals as I climbed the ranks. It was a wrench to leave the team, but I have always been ambitious and when an opportunity to work with the main agents in town as a branch manager, I took the opportunity.
Working for the Big Boys…
I worked for Dawsons Estate Agents as a branch manager for residential lettings and had a wonderful time expanding a busy department. It was an opportunity for me to deal with properties and clients from across Swansea and not just the Marina. Looking back and although I did not plan it that way I had a great grounding with two professional agencies and this gave me all the confidence and experience I needed to run my own property business. During my time at Dawsons I met Dean Brain who had been working there for several years as a negotiator and towards the end a senior negotiator. It was nearly 4 years into this position that I approached Dean with the plan to open a business of our own. I had recognised Dean as someone who was passionate about property, very good at his job and a true gentleman.
The Big Gamble….
The plan to open our own business was a huge gamble in many ways as I had a family and 3 young children and Dean had a family and 4 young children. The plan to give up our secure paid jobs was a big risk. We started the business with a brand, no properties and in a difficult property climate. This said we knew we would be successful based on what we had achieved in our now previous job positions, but we had no idea how long it would take. Fast Forward to present day and we now have a thriving Property Sales Department, Residential Letting Department and are leaders in the Student Letting Market. Both Dean and I couldn’t be prouder of what we have achieved.
I’m lucky to have a supportive wife in Kelly who works in a school on a one to one basis with a child who she absolutely adores, so much so she talks about him more than our own children at times! We have brought up our daughter Ellie (13) and the boys Charlie (11) and Alfie (6) who keep us very much on our toes! Between dance, swimming and football classes our home life is as frantic as my work life!
I have been a Christian for over 10 years of my life. My faith underpins and guides me in everything I do. I am lucky to have some great Christian friends that are doing some excellent work in the Lords name. I would dearly like to see the Christian faith grow a great deal in the society around me as I know it would solve so many of the problems that I see people facing today. I support my local Chapel as a deacon and I am a trustee of the Step by Step project, which is a Christian run charity, and does some fantastic work with people from difficult backgrounds. This is the charity, which as a business, we support and there is more about this work elsewhere on the website under ‘The Step by Step Project’.
My Work Passion…
I love my property business! I enjoy building an efficient team and seeing skilled staff progress through the business. I enjoy competing against the competition and striving to be a recognised leader in the local market. I have never lost my passion for property whether its selling, letting or property management. I have developed skills, know-how and experience over 20 years and love putting this into practice through my team and delivering a great customer service experience for my clients.
